One of a Kind - Guatemalan Huipil Backpack

The ultimate back-to-school backpack, each of these Guatemalan leather backpacks is as colorful as it is cultural. Each colorful backpack is handmade from sueded leather andhuipil fabric used for traje tipico or traditional dress in different regions of Guatemala. Coupled with padded backs made of multicolored traditional jaspe textiles, each one of these colorful leather backpacks is as unique as you are.

The red huipil fabrics are from the town of Nebaj, home to the indigenous Ixil of northern Guatemala. Each one of a kind leather huipil backpack is made of hand loomed, naturally dyed huipil fabric and celebrates and supports the uniquely colorful Mayan culture of the Ixil.

The more modern multicolor triangular designs are from the community of San Martin Jilotepeque, Chimaltenengo, Guatemala.

Featuring zippered leather side utility pockets, an outer zippered leather lined pocket, a zippered stash pocket on the flap, adjustable leather clasp and straps, a tasseled leather drawstring main compartment, and a zippered inner pocket, this unique leather backpack is truly one for the books!

Each one of a kind leather Huipil backpack is a work of art, and as such unique variations in color and design are expected and celebrated

Shipping time is an estimate of when the item will arrive after it leaves our warehouse, it is not a guarantee. Once your order is out the door and in the hands of the universe, we unfortunately have no control over what happens at UPS, USPS, or FedEx.

We work hard to ship every order as quickly as possible, on occasion more popular items are out of stock in our warehouse and need to be pulled from one of our 5 stores and may have slightly longer processing times.

Discounts, codes, and Smile High Club loyalty rewards cannot be stacked or combined with each other.

Since much of our clothing is hand-made in countries with different methods of sizing, it is important to note the measurements listed below each item on the individual product pages. We have taken extra care to provide you with the most accurate measurements possible by measuring all items ourselves before they are put up on our website. Please refer to our Size Guide for more information.

"One Size" means that the item only comes in one size, unfortunately it's not always the case that it will fit everyone. When ordering a one size item be sure to check the measurements provided below the item's description. If you're still not sure, please feel free to send us an email!

If you would like to change or add something to your order after you have placed it, please send us an email at customerservice@mexicaliblues.com. Since we do our best to get orders shipped out as quickly as possible, please contact us as soon as you can!

Mexicali offers package protection to protect your goods once they have left our warehouse, and to help us as a small business.

Package Protection is automatically applied to all purchases and priced in relation to the order total. If you don't want protection for your order uncheck the option in your cart or at checkout.

Mexicali Blues started in 1988, born of a love of travel and a mindful devotion to fun. In the beginning most of our wares consisted of handwoven Mexican baskets and handicrafts, as well as Grateful Dead merchandise. The name was suggested by our founder Pete Erskine's brother, as inspired by the Grateful Dead song (Mexicali Blues). Since then, Mexicali Blues has become more than just a name, it is a brand, an identity, and a lifestyle. We now responsibly import clothing, jewelry, and home decor from eight different countries, not just Mexico, but our name stuck and hey, we like it that way. Learn more about our history here ✌️
