Frequently Asked Questions
Mexicali Blues started in 1988, born of a love of travel and a mindful devotion to fun. In the beginning most of our wares consisted of handwoven Mexican baskets and handicrafts, as well as Grateful Dead merchandise. The name was suggested by our founder Pete Erskine's brother, as inspired by the Grateful Dead song (Mexicali Blues). Since then, Mexicali Blues has become more than just a name, it is a brand, an identity, and a lifestyle. We now responsibly import clothing, jewelry, and home decor from eight different countries, not just Mexico, but our name stuck and hey, we like it that way. Learn more about our history here ✌️

Since much of our clothing is hand-made in countries with different methods of sizing, it is important to note the measurements listed below each item on the individual product pages. We have taken extra care to provide you with the most accurate measurements possible by measuring all items ourselves before they are put up on our website. Please refer to our Size Guide for more information.
"One size" means that the item only comes in one size, unfortunately it's not always the case that it will fit everyone. When ordering a one size item be sure to check the measurements provided below the item's description. If you're still not sure, please feel free to send us an email!

How do I care for my products?
Our tags say hand wash, which is the best way to increase the lifespan of any garment. Nearly all of our clothing and textiles can be washed on a cold delicate cycle in your washing machine and hung or laid flat to dry. Keep reading to learn more about the care of specific items and materials!
Lay the garment on a clean towel and gently roll it up like a jelly roll to extract water. Unfurl and arrange on a dry towel or a mesh rack to finish drying.
Sometimes due to the artisanal process there is excess dye in our hand dyed and handmade textiles (especially with our rayon Indonesian batik and viscose Thai Mudmee tie dye clothing) so it is a good idea to wash your garments in cold water before you wear them, especially if you might get caught in a rain shower!
