Thailand the Land of Smiles

Thailand has long been referred to as “The Land of Smiles,” and Mexicali Makers Pirom and Nuttida are no exception to Thailand’s cheerful nickname. Pirom goes by Ping, and Nuttida goes by “Donut” or Nut depending on the day. Happy, kind, and creative, the power duo brings the power of smiles to their designs as their colorful clothing spreads smiles to the world. They continue to share their smiles throughout their supply chain by empowering all of the employees who work for them. Their products can be found in night markets and streetside stalls throughout Bangkok and beyond, and we are stoked to have teamed up with them to introduce our very own line of Mexicali Blues inspired designs.

Ping got his start in fashion by screen printing tee shirts and traveling to different islands in Thailand to sell them to tourists from all over the world. By creating his own traveling “Shakedown Street” Ping was able to refine his style and test out different designs. Through this real-life experimentation, Ping found his stride with kaleidoscopic psychedelic tee shirts, the more colorful the better. When Ping met Nut they moved into a small shop in Bangkok in 2014. Fast forward ten years later to 2024 and this small shop has grown to three large showrooms and their very own maker space. Their products, just like their business and designs, continue to evolve and now include graphic dresses, graphic bags, and kids' clothes (which look super cute on their son Phuum!).

More Than Just the Designs

All of these products are 100% cotton, stitched, screen printed, and dyed with love by Ping and Nut’s makers in Bangkok. Plus, there are three other things that make each of these products extra special: 

1. The stone washing process gives the fabric a slightly faded retro-inspired look that makes each shirt one of a kind and complements all of the colorful designs
2. The lightweight cotton has the perfect amount of stretch to hug you in all of the right ways and move and groove with you through life
3. The rough cut hem is left a la natural which allows it to curl and amplifies the worn-in aesthetic, making each and every product truly your own

The result is that every one of these one-of-a-kind pieces of clothing is as special as you are, and we hope that you love them as much as we do!

Music, Art, Life, Everything is Inspiration

Ping and Nut find inspiration for their designs in everything from music to art, hippie fashion to traditional Thai talismans, nature to music festival fashion, and in life itself. Thailand is not only famous for its smiles but also for its vibrant and colorful culture, which can be found throughout their designs. Our Mexicali-inspired line includes everything from colorful yin yang tee shirts to celestial-inspired sun and moon sundresses, tiger tee shirts inspired by the traditional sak yant tattoo designs of Thailand to tree of life sweatshirts, and a little bit of everything in between! We look forward to continuing to expand this line of fun and funky clothing, and to growing both our business and our friendship with Ping and Nut for many years to come.
