Position Summary:
Mexicali Blues is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Assistant Retail Store Manager to support the Store Manager in the day-to-day operations of our store. The Assistant Manager will help ensure the store runs smoothly, guiding staff, driving sales, and providing exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will inspire a positive and upbeat environment, acting as a brand ambassador in the absence of the Store Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a positive ("glass half full") atmosphere for both customers and employees, acting as a brand mascot for Mexicali Blues.
- Assist in leading store operations, supporting the Store Manager by motivating, training, and guiding staff in their daily roles.
- Offer excellent customer service and sales advice on the sales floor during retail hours.
- Help the store meet sales goals through effective salesmanship, greeting and interacting with every customer, and offering product information to help customers make informed purchases.
- Open and close the store on a set schedule; arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior to opening.
- Help train and educate staff on merchandise, registers, customer service, and sales techniques.
- Ensure the store environment is dynamic and inviting by maintaining a visually appealing layout that sparks customer interest.
- Oversee opening and closing procedures, including register, security, and banking tasks.
- Help manage loss prevention and ensure store security.
- Serve as the acting manager during the Store Manager’s time off, under the guidance of the General Manager.
- Act as the point person for managing employee call-outs on Sundays and Mondays.
Qualifications:
- Retail sales experience, preferably in a customer-focused retail environment.
- Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop staff.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to resolve conflicts in a calm, professional manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
- High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Proficiency with business software (POS systems, web browsers, Google Suite etc.).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for up to 10 hours and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a retail setting, including weekends and nights.
Work Environment:
- The work primarily occurs in-store. Weekend and evening availability is required.
