There are millions of people experiencing the magic of travel right now, and World Tourism Day is a celebration of the positive impact of all these journeys.
We’re particularly excited about World Tourism Day this year because the host country is one of our very favorite travel destinations—Thailand. Now the most visited country in southeast Asia, Thailand welcomed 33 million international visitors who contributed $44.6 billion to the Thai economy. We know firsthand what a difference these dollars (and euros, yen, yuan and more) make to our friends and their communities. But the baht exchange rate is only the beginning—the benefits of world travel go far beyond money.
World Tourism Day calls attention to the many ways travel can change our lives and lift up communities. Tourism supports and strengthens local economies, preserves historically and environmentally significant places and artifacts, promotes political equality and social justice, opens minds, forges connections, builds empathy and boosts creativity.
