The first of May, May Day. Spiral dances around a maypole with head wreaths of first flowers. Young couples enjoying the Springtime spark. The coming together of polarities in ecstatic ritual.
These ancient markers of cosmic events, as they collude with Mother Earth to re-inspire, are known collectively as Beltane in the Celtic celebratory calendar... a fire festival linked to purification and fertility and a Cross-quarter in the turning of the zodiac as calculated by the changes of our Moon.
And so the week begins with a major pre-Christian sacred time in the annual circulation of the Earth round the Sun, a very old festival. This is a mid-point between the Vernal Equinox and the Summer Solstice, a moment to experience the freshness of Life between the onset of Spring and the fullness of the coming Summer.
This particular Beltane is characterized by the still active Jupiter/Neptune conjunction in Pisces... all about allowing compassion and resolution to prevail with spirit vision and a belief in better things to come. And it's still conjoined with Venus, the goddess Aphrodite, who brings the desire to couple in the tenderness and sweetness of the 12th sign, the final water sign of Pisces, the Fish.
This is the gateway for the week. It's an opportunity for you to touch the greening grass, the red buds, the sheer joy of existence and feel how your physical existence... Taurus, where the Sun now is... connects you to your deepest Self.
